Students playing football

Participation in physical activity is essential to improving a student's health status and quality of life. The Physical Activity and Sport Studies course offers students the opportunity to develop a variety of skills through participation in a wide range of physical activities

Through the study of PASS, students are introduced to physical activities in a variety of contexts. Physical activities studied include recreational, leisure and adventure pursuits, competitive and non-competitive games, individual and group physical activities, and the use of physical activities for therapy and remediation.

PASS promotes the concept of learning through movement. Students will develop their movement skills, analyse movement performance and assist in the performance of others.  It also introduces students to valuable skills in organisation, enterprise, communication and leadership as well as presenting potential career pathways in the sport and recreation industry.

Physical Activity and Sport Studies provides opportunities for personal challenge as well as positive interaction with others in both collaborative and competitive contexts and assists in the development of key social skills necessary for successful interpersonal relationships.

Students will work both individually and in teams when planning and conducting physical activities. Through the understanding of physical activities and its social and cultural contexts, students are provided with a basis for future choices and decisions about a healthy lifestyle.

By engaging students in a wide range of physical activities in a variety of contexts, students can build activity into their lifestyle and develop essential skills for the future.
